‘We don’t approve of your behavior,’ Babolat tell Paire and Fognini
“ We do not approve of your behavior, ” Babolat confides to Benoit Paire and Fabio Fognini
Snowshoe maker Babolat issued a statement saying it “ does not approve ” of the recent behavior of Benoit Paire and Fabio Fognini.
Pair and Fognini have been controversial figures in recent months, with the Frenchman openly tanking in matches and declaring his intention to lose matches as early as possible in tournaments.
This saw the French Tennis Federation banning him from representing them at the Olympics due to what they described as “ deeply inappropriate ” behavior.
Fognini, meanwhile, was excluded from the Barcelona Open this week for verbally abusing an official, despite claiming he was falsely accused.
The Italian also sparked controversy at the US Open last year, saying he ‘hoped a bomb would go off’ on Flushing Meadows, as he also engaged in a heated exchange at the Australian Open with his compatriot Salvatore Caruso.
Now it looks like Babolat, who supplies them both with snowshoes, has had enough, although they stopped before dropping them.
“At Babolat, tennis runs in our blood. We believe in the strength of our sport and uphold its values of respect, fair play, team spirit, friendship and fun of the game, ”the statement said.
“Sometimes a family member can go through a complex time and forget the importance of these values and the example that we must pass on to all fans of the sport.
“Worried about the recent excesses of Benoit Paire and Fabio Fognini, we informed them that we do not approve of their behavior.
“Today, we reaffirmed our values and the importance of respecting them.
“We will reflect in more detail with Benoit and Fabio on the follow-up and will see together how to support them.”
